Chelsea DeFazio, MC

Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC)

Welcome! My name is Chelsea, and I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in good standing with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). I hold a Master of Counselling (MC) from City University, and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology from Simon Fraser University.

My path towards counselling was shaped both by a deep desire to support others, and by my own experience attending counselling for anxiety. Having personally experienced the relief and growth that therapy can offer, I felt drawn to pursue a career where I could support others in finding their own sense of healing and change.

Prior to becoming a counsellor, I worked as a crisis intervention worker, where I supported first responders and individuals impacted by crime, trauma, loss, and other crises. Through this work, I developed a deep understanding of the far-reaching impacts of trauma, which continues to inform my work as a counsellor.

My clinical lens is rooted in trauma-informed, collaborative, and strengths-based approaches, guided by a commitment to cultural humility. I strive to create a safe and supportive space grounded in empathy, genuine care, authenticity, and openness, so you can show up as your true self without fear of judgment. I view therapy as a collaborative process: you bring your lived experience, strengths, and perspective, and I integrate these with my clinical training and evidence-based practices to support your growth.

I take an integrative approach to therapy, drawing from a range of modalities to best meet your unique needs and goals. My core approaches include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based practices. Together, we may explore patterns in thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and personal narratives, build tolerance for uncertainty, and develop skills to stay grounded in the present moment. My goal is to support you in living a life guided by your values rather than fear.

I support clients navigating a variety of concerns, including:

  • Anxiety
  • OCD
  • Depression
  • Stress and burnout
  • Trauma
  • Self-Esteem
  • Perfectionism
  • Life transitions
  • Relationship challenges

Outside of my work, I enjoy creative expression through painting, drawing, crafting, and exploring new DIY projects. I also value time spent in nature, whether hiking or visiting the beach to paddle board and take in the ocean. An animal lover at heart, I also cherish time with my senior cat.

I know that at times life can feel heavy and uncertain, making it difficult to know how to move forward. I want to acknowledge the courage it takes to seek support.
