My name is Georgia and I am so happy you found your way to ARC! I was born and bred in Vancouver, and feel grateful to have been able to live in such a beautiful city my entire life. I obtained my Masters in Counselling Psychology (MCP) from Adler University, my Bachelors in Health Science (BSc) from SFU, and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in good standing with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC).
As someone who has suffered from depression and anxiety in the past, I have seen how important it is to have a sense of connection, and a non-judgemental person to listen and understand you. In other words, I know firsthand just how much healing can occur with a strong therapeutic relationship. As a result I am deeply passionate about counselling, and do not take my responsibility as your therapist lightly. I also view mental health as a spectrum and recognize that even without a diagnosis, many of us go through periods where we feel down, anxious, lost, or unable to cope.
While my primary approach to therapy is Adlerian, I often integrate other modalities, such as Mindfulness Based Therapy (MBCT), Person-Centered Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I also have specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), which I use to help relieve PTSD symptoms, including traumatic memories, flashbacks, and nightmares. In our work together, you are in the driver’s seat, and I am here to support you, listen to you, and provide you with the tools you need to heal.
Issues I have experience working with include:
- Anxiety & Stress
- Depression
- Anger Issues
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Self-Esteem
- Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse
- Relationship Issues
- Grief & Loss
As a new mum, I also know the importance in having a sense of community and feeling accepted and connected. The peri-natal and post-partum periods can be intense and challenging for both parents and having support can be integral during these times.
As well as being a mum, I am an avid reader, enjoy walking the seawall, trying new restaurants, and travelling. One thing I love about travelling is the opportunity to experience such diverse and unique cultures. Some of my favourite travel destinations include Kenya, Nepal, Morocco, Thailand, and Turkey. The next place I hope to venture to is South America.
If you think we would be a good fit, or have any questions, I encourage you to contact me using the form below. I look forward to becoming a part of your healing journey.
