I’m Michael. I’m a Registered Social Worker (RSW) with a decade of experience in the field of mental health. I have a Master of Social Work (MSW) from New York University (NYU), and a BA in Human Relations from Concordia University in Montreal.
I grew up in Vancouver, where I struggled with depression and low self-worth throughout my adolescence and early adulthood. Driven to seek solutions, I spent years studying Zen meditation in Japan and plant medicine in Peru. Through those experiences I learned that there is not one miracle cure, but an array of skills and practices we can harness to cultivate our health and wellbeing.
I returned to North America with a renewed sense of freedom and purpose. I went on to pursue my master’s degree with a specialization in adult psychotherapy. By merging my professional training and personal experiences, I came to realize how creative and impactful counselling can be.
Over the years I’ve worked with a diverse range of communities: from homeless LGBTQ+ youth to adults coping with significant trauma and loss. Of the thousands of stories I’ve sat with, one of the most resounding themes is the wisdom that tells us it’s time to grow. It’s time to grow beyond our old limiting patterns, and into a more fulfilling experience of life.
In my clinical work I draw from a range of modalities, integrating Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) with skills rooted in somatic therapy, self-compassion, and mindfulness. My approach is warm, relational, and relaxed.
I am able to support you with issues related to:
